We the Students – Michigan’s We the People Program School Registration is Open!
Colleagues in Civic Education,
We hope this finds you well! We are so excited for this year’s We the Students – Michigan’s We the People program. This note serves to inform the public about volunteer opportunities, school registration, and process information.
Volunteer Opportunities. You are needed! Do you enjoy Constitutional and current event questions? Please bring your Constitutional and field expertise to volunteer. Visit https://miciviced.org/programs/we-the-people/ and click the second orange button to sign up!
School Registration is Open! Please visit https://miciviced.org/programs/we-the-people/ and click on the school registration button!
Virtual. As of September 1, 2021, the We the People events are being scheduled for virtual. The MCCE Programming committee met to recommend that all We the People programming be virtual in part because we cannot guarantee access to the Capitol because of size limitations. So – to keep the practice between Districts and States the same – and to work on predictability of the experience, the plan will be virtual. If the State opens up, we can talk as a group about how to proceed from there. We miss seeing you dearly – and hope the situation may change to permit that!

The State Questions are here – https://files.civiced.org/pdfs/WTP/StateHearingQuestions2021-22.pdf
MCCE has determined which two questions will be asked for the state showcase and competition. Please see the portion of the document below. The decisions were made to try to provide the whole unit experience – so after analysis of District Question #3, the two questions that best complimented the state questions for the state showcase and competition.
Unit 1 – Questions 1 and 2
Unit 2 – Questions 1 and 2
Unit 3 – Questions 1 and 2
Unit 4 – Questions 2 and 3
Unit 5 – Questions 1 and 3
Unit 6 – Questions 1 and 3
You can find a reformatted document on the We the People program page for easier access!
Roundtable.
We would love to host a monthly roundtable to help trouble-shoot, announce any changes to competition/showcase, and make all the coaches feel welcome and included. Right now it looks like Tuesday or Thursday evenings are the best. Please advise if one of those evenings would work better.
PD Sessions.
Stay tuned for more PD sessions this fall. We will also work on voting information, voter outreach, and registration with a new initiative from the Secretary of State. Stay tuned!
