MiVoice MiVote: Transforming Voting & Election Education in Michigan

The MiVoice MiVote Initiative

What is the MiVoice MiVote Initiative?

The MiVoice MiVote Voting and Elections Education Initiative advances opportunities and knowledge to inform, engage, and launch all PK-16+ students and their communities into a lifetime of dynamic civic participation.

In cooperation and collaboration with the Michigan Secretary of State and the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Center for Civic Education (MCCE) empowers students with the hands-on skills to understand the fundamentals of voting, election security, and the democratic process. We provide professional learning to help schools navigate elections and fulfill the new Public Act 258 laws requiring schools to provide both pre-registration and registration opportunities.

Our students are ready to engage. Together, we work with educators to provide nonpartisan, challenging, and meaningful opportunities to experience elections firsthand. We help classrooms establish protocols that practice political dialogue and ensure that a diversity of perspectives is heard and understood.

Immersive Simulations & New Lesson Plans

Civic and voting identity start here! Our updated programming features immersive simulations and engaging lesson plans to bring the election process to life:

  • Practice at the Polls: A full election simulation to demystify the voting experience. Participants navigate a realistic four-station polling place, practice voter ID checks, fill out official-style applications, and use authentic tabulator equipment to cast their ballots.

  • MiSecure Elections: Run the hands-on “Closing the Polls” activity to teach election integrity. Working in precinct teams, students simulate the legally mandated steps to reconcile ballot counts, record write-in votes exactly as written, and securely certify the final election results.

  • Civic Literacy & Stability: Deep-dive lessons on the peaceful transfer of power, media literacy, and purposeful communication.

  • Registration Ready: Provide students with the knowledge needed to pre-register and register to vote.
