Exploring Careers in the Law–Summer Program for High School Students–Now Accepting Applications

Each summer, the Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center offers a dynamic program that illustrates the work of state courts. Participants examine how appellate courts work by arguing a case as if before the Supreme Court.

The program is for students entering 10th-12th grade (Fall 2014) and 2014 graduates. This year’s program will be held July 21-25 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. daily.

The moot court case will examine whether police may conduct the warrantless search of a cell phone at the time of arrest. Participants will discuss what protections the Fourth Amendment to the U.S.Constitution offers and what rules should apply to 21st-century technology. Applications and additional information are available at http://courts.mi.gov/education/learning-center/Documents/MootCtApp2014.pdf

Students are encouraged to apply early as registration is limited, and the program fills quickly. Applications
are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration deadline is May 30, 2014

Call 517-373-5027 or email drenovskyr@courts.mi.gov for additionalinformation.
